Colorado -- Susie & Linda on the Ark & Cache Creek -- August 2013
Hey Gold Adventurers...
Time to recreate another of the "lost" Trip Reports when my old Forum died.
This great time had by all was back in August 2013, when my little sister Susie (red hair) and my cousin Linda visited me from Kalifornia for a week. Between eating out, shopping BV & Aspen we spent 2 days out in the hills gold prospecting.
Out on the Arkansas River: Basically, I set both "girls" up with a sluice and let them hand wash the gold rich material and I did the rock pitching, diggin', delivering of buckets to them...
Susie & Linda on the Ark:
My dig spot at the water's edge:
The girls sluicing away:
Here's yours truly, pitching rocks, diggin' good dirt for the girls:
We had a lot of "hard fun"...............did a great little picnic lunch on the river, enjoyed the fresh air, views, rushing river/water sound.
Here's our fine flood gold take for the 4 hours or so. Forget the exact recovery, but think it was right about 1 gram:
Next day up at Cache Creek:
I wanted the girls to see Cache Creek, get a different perspective, hand wash some sticky glacial clay and hopefully get a little bigger, chunkier gold than on the Ark. Other than a few mosquitoes, it was a nice day on the creek... The creek at the upper end was dropping fast, but still just enough to sluice with a Tee Dee and Le Trap sluices.
Linda set up and sluicing glacial material:
Pics of my Le Trap sluice that Susie ran most of the day:
A look at my dig spot in that big orangish glacial berm. Have to soak the material in water in a bucket, stir & slurry it up to free the gold then hand wash it in the sluice flair:
A view out across the park where it was hydrauliced over 100 years ago:
Again, a GREAT family day out in the hills. Another awesome picnic lunch on the creek, in the shade. Here's our Cache Creek gold for the day. Think it was about 3/4 of a gram, with 2 small pickers:
All in all..............both days out were a big success. I got to gold prospect with my little sister Susie & cousin Linda. Nice they came all the way from Kalifornia.
Hope "you all" get out soon, get some gold, create a "Gold Adventures" memory and come back here to the Forum and post us all a Trip Report & pics.

Sir:
It is very very very unfortunate that we may not be able to sluice Cache Creek ever again, got some very very very fond memories..........I looked back over the Management Plan and Environmental Assessment today, nothing but hog wash (BS).........

Chief,
Is the "new" 2016 EA/Mgt Plan for Cache Creek up yet on the BLM website?
I hadn't heard if it was. Keith Berger promised me a direct e-mail alerting me when it was...
Always from bad to worse with "government", the USFS & BLM.

Sir:
No nothing new at this point, the last update to the BLM Cache Creek page was June 15. One thing I want you to remember is that because of our future sacrifices the Boreal Toad will live to croak another day, even though they don't live anywhere in the vicinity, oh and the salamander's too.
