Hey Gold Adventurers...

Well, VERY glad I hit Cache Creek last week twice............on Thursday & Friday before WS Vexo hit...

They said it was going to be a big, wet, heavy, long lasting "branch breaker" of a Spring snow storm.  They were right!

Here at my house we got some wrap around effect and another 3 to 4 inches last night.  All totaled up, we're over 2 feet for sure.  Being so wet, heavy it just keeps melting into the warm ground and packing down as it falls elsewhere.

Sun came out for a while, already up to 48F by 11:15 AM, so it's melting fast on the warm dirt driveway.  A few pics from this morning:

So, we can sure use the extra moisture.  I am sure we're back over 100% of our average annual snowpack for April now...  Nobody needs or wants a drought.  Wink The lower hills, 13ers & 14ers are solid white again.

Bummer is it's keeping me from gold prospecting now, but the good thing is later this Fall there will still be good water flowing to sluice into Winter up here.

So, hopefully the warm weather & sun will clear off the back country dirt roads, get me back to Cache Creek for more GOLD!!!

Russ,

It's all good.  Melting in fast.  Yesterday was up to 50F and mostly sunny.  Will be the same today too.  Starting out at 22F and perfectly clear.  Should get up to the 50s again.

Won't be long before I can go prospecting again.  Very Happy

Oh, once again I'll have to fix/reinstall the wood stove chimney on the top of big steel barn out back.  Look upper left of the double doors with glass in them.

The stove heats the work shop built into the barn.  Twice last year the snow in April/May was so wet, heavy, deep, over a foot, that when it started to melt off the whole layer of snow just "slips" off the roof like an avalanche.....ripping my chimney off in the process!

As I look out back, it's been ripped off once again....  What ya gonna do?

Randy look into the roof attachments that get mounted onto the roof in various places ...They prevent large sheets of snow / ice from slidding off and hitting people . These roof pieces break up the sheets of snow and ice to smaller peices. Here in Saint Louis Misery I have even seen them on business roofs next to sidewalks.

Russ,

Good idea.

My other idea is to simply patch over the hole in the roof, seal it up.

The "wood stove" in the shop is one of those cheap setups where you get 2 35-gal steel barrels and turn them into a "double barreled" wood stove stacked one on top of the other with some kit pieces.

Problem is it was installed 22 years ago by the original owner and the barrels are all rusted out now. I have never used "wood stove" ever in the winter as a heater in the 4 years I've been here full-time, as I just don't need to work in the shop for long periods of time.

I hear the original owner was a wood worker guy and had lots of equipment like table saws, routers, planers, etc. Heard he liked to spend hours & days in his wood shop making stuff in the winter. Not me.

So, since I'd have to go to the expense of totally replacing the wood stove, probably all the black & stainless pipe & flashings & such, I'll probably just seal it off this summer.
