Hey Gold Adventurers...

Well, just when the last winter storm's snow was just about gone and I was considering gettin' out for a little prospecting on the Ark, we got hit with another winter storm last 2 days...

Got maybe 1 foot of fairly wet, heavy snow.  It was only 28 degrees as it snowed.  Got about 10 inches yesterday and about 2 more inches last night.

I ran the snow blower all around yesterday afternoon, shoveled off the decks & back patio.

Got about another 2 inches last night.  This morning all clear.  Had 10 degrees for the morning low.  Up to a balmy 14 degree now with the wind kickin' up.  So, guess I'll have to postpone any prospecting for some other day....maybe a week or two, depending on how fast the snow disappears.....if it does.  Heading into deep winter now, so it might just stay & build up until Spring.

Here's a few pics:

We have a small herd of about 50 Elk now up at the Heckendorf WMA, about 1.3 miles North of me.  Maybe some will wander down this way...

I had 3 does out by my garden plot eating on the bushes this morning and 1 bunny hopping around, looking for something to eat...  Life's good in High Kolorado!  So much for idiots and their "Global Warming" scam...

Stay warm!

Well Randy, one thing that can't be beat in Colorado are the beautiful snow landscapes. Now, if you could add a few Elk to make the postcard photo, that would be great.

Keep warm with a cigar and a little brandy, it will be nice sitting in front of the fireplace with the logs burning bright.

Enjoy! Very Happy

Dickb,

Ha. I have my Man Cave wood stove roaring right now............up to 75 in here with it only 17 outside and dropping...

I have my glass of Scotch, sipping along.....enjoying the High Kolorado deep winter.

As to Elks............here's a few pics I snapped in the past of some up at the Heckendorf WMA and then others out my dack door by my horse corral and yet others out my front lawn, on my driveway and across in front of me over on the AU property...

Enjoy! My sweet wife Dee calls the "Kolorado Camels"... Wink

Hope to get a cow this year before 31 Jan 2016!

Russ,

Ha.  Here in High Kolorado we've had 2 of the earliest, coldest, most snow years in the last 8+ years...  We've had 2 big snows and about 7 "dustings" of snow here to date.  A balmy 9 degrees out this morning, clear.  Will probably drop 2 more degrees when the sun tries to come up...

This web site....Ice Age Now.....really has some good info, data, articles that prove the earth's NOT warming because of "man", that CO2 actually helps us produce the crops and food we need, that CO2 levels have been WAY higher in eons past when we had about zero human population, that the U.N. and others have manipulated weather data going back decades, have screwed up computer models that use "variables" that generate the outcome THEY want....

http://iceagenow.info/

The whole man-made "Global Warming" hoax is just that...........a scam of Biblical proportions.  The eco-Nazis are leading the charge with godless, Commie Liberal Democrats & other Liberal politicians worldwide to blame CO2, blame man, organize a worldwide carbon tax, control governments, economies and redistribute the wealth from "rich" industrial nations to "poor" emerging nations...  All B.S.

Here we see the lies, manipulation of a study questionnaire that had been used and abused to push their agenda, from Forbes Magazine:

"So where did that famous “consensus” claim that “98% of all scientists believe in global warming” come from? It originated from an endlessly reported 2009 American Geophysical Union (AGU) survey consisting of an intentionally brief two-minute, two question online survey sent to 10,257 earth scientists by two researchers at the University of Illinois. Of the about 3,000 who responded, 82% answered “yes” to the second question, which like the first, most people I know would also have agreed with.

Then of those, only a small subset, just 77 who had been successful in getting more than half of their papers recently accepted by peer-reviewed climate science journals, were considered in their survey statistic. That “98% all scientists” referred to a laughably puny number of 75 of those 77 who answered “yes”."
http://www.forbes.com/sites/larrybell/2012/07/17/that-scientific-global-warming-consensus-not/

This Forbes article does a good job too of dispelling the myth that "the science is settled".  Ha!  http://www.forbes.com/sites/alexepstein/2015/01/06/97-of-climate-scientists-agree-is-100-wrong/

Snow?  Arizona?  Better call Al Gore and inquire...

Remember he got an Oscar for his "Inconvenient Lie" documentary?  Ha.  He said back in 2006 we ONLY had 10 years.........and then the earth would "cook"!

So, how close to "cooking" are we?  We've only got 43 days left.  Then, we fry!

Post by Admin Tue Dec 15, 2015 6:53 am

Russ,

Ha.  Well............another winter storm just hit us last night.  Thank God for Global Warming...

Got another 2 to 3 inches of snow and the outside temp is sitting at 16 degrees.  Will snow on/off until tonight.

The school district did a robo call at 5AM this morning alerting the country that due to the new snow that was on top of the last snow's white ice roads......all schools will delay reporting for 2 hrs. due to "treacherous road conditions".

Now THAT is very unusual for us here in High Kolorado.  But I have to say the roads ARE just that bad.  I drove to BV yesterday afternoon and about 80% a sheet of ice...

My 18 year old son even admitted to me that driving home from skool yesterday in his (my) 1999 Jeep he forgot to engage 4-WD hitting a long section of white ice, got to the intersection of County Roads 384 and 361, turned the corner, accelerated, had the posi unit break both rear wheels loose, started fishtailing and he "drifted" in an end around slide off the road into the ditch.  Luckily, no cars coming and no damage.  Engaged 4-WD, backed out for the ditch fine, did a walk around, no apparent damage...  Good life lesson for driving on ice.  Snow and ice are two TOTALLY different animals.  I told him to just leave his Jeep in full-time 4-WD, as it has the better transfer case to do that on marginal rods, but he "forgot"...  He sure won't forget next time!  Ha.  Wink

So, with the new snow on top of the old snow, even MORE time to wait before I can try prospecting a couple feeder spring spots that flow into the Ark, and that keeps the immediate gravels mostly unfrozen, so I can at least pan some, if not sluice a little despite being below freezing all day/night now...

Randy's Prospecting on Hold Due to Snow Empty Re: Randy's Prospecting on Hold Due to Snow

Post by OKJohn Sun Dec 20, 2015 6:24 am

We've talked about it numerous times Randy.  I personally know a lot of those so-called "scientists" who preach global warming.  Its a religion more than science.  They have faith that humans are destroying their Mother Earth.  They do not need facts to prove anything.

I work in an office of over 40 atmospheric scientists.  I would guess about 10% believe anthropogenic global warming is occurring, while 90% see the scam for what it really is.  None of them were asked their opinion for that poll you mentioned.

And lets assume for the sake of argument that the Earth is warming (no evidence for 20 years).  If so, its likely due to solar influences.  And - we will deal with it.  Man is very capable of adapting to a changing environment.  If the oceans rise a few feet in the next 100 years, people will slowly move their homes away from the coast line. Canadians will have a longer growing season, and will buy farm tractors.  It'll be fine.

Keep tellin' it like it is Randy!

Randy's Prospecting on Hold Due to Snow Empty Re: Randy's Prospecting on Hold Due to Snow

Post by Admin Sun Dec 20, 2015 7:18 am

John,

Well, thanks! Welcome back to the new GA Forum! You're up to 3 posts......don't stop.... Wink

I have some of the most "interesting" talks with my 18 year old High School senior son.....Christian. He's soooooooo bought & sold over man-made Global Warming, as he's been taught in skool over the years...

He's a big believer that the role of government is to do what "must be done".....and "save the planet".......because individuals, individual countries won't act in the best interest of the planet.......they'll only act in their own self-interest, and so burn coal that's cheap, available, reliable 24/7 power for electricity & energy needs...

He believes too that "government" must lead the marketplace in the development of new technologies that will make for a better future.....such as the "green agenda" whereby we see exactly what we're (sadly) seeing now today.....Obama's direct waste of money in "green" energy to the tune of 100s of billions of OUR tax dollars for Solyndra, A123 Batteries, Ivanpath, Solana Solar, etc.

Here we see that silly $2.2 billion solar power plant in the SoCal desert an abject failure. It incinerates zillions of birds a year that fly thru the plant, only delivers a miserable 40% of the promised electricity and pollutes CO2 BIG TIME as it makes a LOT of it's power from burning natural gas when they have a solar problem! Oh, Abengoa, the Spanish parent company Obama wasted our $2.2 billion on Ivanpath in Kalifornia & $2 billion more in Arizona at Solana Solar to help build these monstrosities is now going bankrupt, so that tells you ALL you need to know about "green" energy...

http://www.wsj.com/articles/high-tech-solar-projects-fail-to-deliver-1434138485
http://calwatchdog.com/2014/04/25/ivanpah-solar-power-shifts-pollution-to-the-desert/
http://www.phoenixnewtimes.com/news/obamas-latest-solar-scandal-parent-of-arizonas-2-billion-solana-plant-is-broke-7867128

"Public TV station KCET estimated Ivanpah’s increased emissions:

“The plant’s total CO2 footprint from burning natural gas would rise to just above 92,200 tons per year, approximately equivalent to the annual greenhouse gas output of 16,500 average passenger cars.”

Ivanpah’s application to the Desert Air Resources Board says it will emit 95,545 tons of Greenhouse Gases per year that would contribute to smog, excluding any carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.

Ivanpah is the largest solar power plant in the world, encompassing 4,000-acres of land with 173,400 heliostatic mirrors used to focus heat toward three central towers rising as high as 40-story buildings, each driving a steam turbine to generate electricity."

I tell Christian Obama & his BIG government wasteful spending on his friends & pet projects, picking winners & losers in the marketplace, killing coal power for NO reason whatsoever is all wrong. Tesla is another BIG failure.....that Obama's supported with OUR tax dollars and made is big campaign donor buddy Elon Musk a billionaire... Tesla makes $100K electric toy cars for the rich elites, that us 99% can't afford and simply puts the pollution somewhere else....from a power plant in another state. But, owners feel good that they drive a "clean" car. Ha. Tesla hasn't made a profit EVER in the 5+ years it's been a company, bleeds cash, loses over $4,000 on every car sold, yet the company stock gives it a $31 billion market cap! TOTALLY insane! It ONLY keeps going because of billions of Obama green energy tax credits. All criminal.

http://www.reuters.com/article/us-teslamotors-cash-insight-idUSKCN0QE0DC20150810

Anyways, yep...........IF "green" is good, the free market will demand it, the free market will develop and deliver it.....and at a cost equal to and cheaper than current energy sources..............NOT because Obama killed cheap, 24/7 reliable power........giving "green" the ultimate unfair advantage in the market place.....NO competition thru the power of his gangster, criminal EPA.

Nice looking elk there. Do you get to take a shot if they are on your land?

In the old days you could, but I haven't been elk or deer hunting in decades so I am sure things have changed.

Keep telling them and pointing out the fraud that AGW is. I do so in my classes at the Air Force Academy. The Alex Epstein article is a good one. Judith Curry, Ga Tech, is another good source of material that destroys AGW.

Happy New Year!

Randy's Prospecting on Hold Due to Snow Empty Re: Randy's Prospecting on Hold Due to Snow

Post by Admin Sat Jan 02, 2016 4:50 am

Dave, Dickb, et al...

Since I have private property (40 acres in my case) as a land owner I can apply/sometimes get an Elk tag even as a "new" adult resident of just 3 years now.....in stead of waiting years to accumulate enough "preference points"......one point each year I pay/apply but don't actually get a hunting tag. Some species like Pronghorn, Moose & Big Horn Sheep can take a decade or more in preference points before a hunter can get a tag, and that's just the right to hunt..........NEVER a guarantee a hunt can/will end in an animal. That's why they call it "hunting", not "getting". Ha. Razz

My son Christian can apply/get a "youth" hunter tag more easily, as the CPW offers up the first 15% of all hunt tags to youth hunters applying between the ages of 12 and 18.  So, Christian actually has gotten an Elk cow private property tag last 3 years in a row.

I finally got my first Elk cow private property tag this year, first in 3 years of applying.

But, that Elk cow private property extended season tag is pretty restrictive, as I can only hunt on my private property OR a neighbor's/friend's private property in the assigned GMU (game management unit) which here is GMU 481.  Now, this area is a bit unique as on the Eastern side of the 14ers, between the mountains & the Arkansas River, the deer/elk herds all wander, migrate, live pretty much the same, act like one BIG herd, even though they're often made up of numerous smaller herds,  and so the CPW wildlife managers actually "manage" 4 separate GMUs as one big GMU.  So, basically from Granite, Colorado (the GMU above me) all the way down the Ark valley on the West side of Hwy 24 to the Continental Divide up at elevation all the way down to Poncha Springs (the 2 GMUs below me) is like one BIG mega GMU.

However, my private property tag is ONLY good for private property.  Now, IF I was lucky enough some day to draw a public land tag for Elk, I COULD also hunt on private property with the landowner's permission.  So, the public tag lets me hunt both, public and private with permission, but a private is only good for private land.

SO, with as little private property held where the Elks actually live/migrate, and other landowners all wanting a hunt too.........it's VERY hard to get anyone else to let you hunt their land, as they are normally trying to hunt their land as well.  SO, it's basically you hunting your land only.  I've tried getting several fellow private property landowners in my GMU to let me hunt theirs if I let them hunt mine....and only my one neighbor Pat up my dirt road, 2nd neighbor up has said O.K.

SO, that's basically where I am at........I need then little Elkies to wander over here onto Randy's own little slice of Kolorado heaven....

Wish me luck here in January!!!  Wink
