Hey Gold Adventurers...

Been wanting to get a "new" used............metal detector for exclusively hunting gold............read a lot of good things about the Gold Bug Pro...

It's extremely light weight at just 2.5 lbs

It's extremely sensitive so one can find even smaller pickers

It's extremely easy to ground balance, operate

It's not too expensive as compared to the big ticket models

So, I bid on an eBay auction for a good used Pro that came with the standard round 5 inch coil and also had the extra 5 x 10 inch elliptical coil.  Free shipping to my door.  I paid $450.  Figure it was a fair price and a "win-win" for both me and the seller.  Can't wait to play with it!  Very Happy

As an aside, as it turns out..........it's a smaller world than I imagined, because the eBay seller turns out to be a work & prospecting buddy.......Steve.......of my good prospecting buddy, John, who has 3 local claims here on the Ark I help watch for him.  So, Steve gets to get a better relic hunting machine....living in Oklahoma, and I get a better gold machine than my old White's MXT multipurpose detector...

SO, whenever I get it and a chance to use it, I'll try to come back and do an "Equipment Review" here on the GA Forum...

Anyone have a Gold Bug Pro?  Anyone got any advice for a newbie like me??? Wink

Randy,
I've been wanting to get a Gold Bug also for a while now, what are your thoughts of the Gold Bug II verses the Gold Bug Pro?

Weary1 & Russ,

Ha. Well................I WISH I could tell you and everyone else exactly how the Gold Bug Pro works..............but............sadly, It's been too cold, snowy, frozen STILL here in 8,500 to 9,500 feet "High" Kolorado to take it for a spin...

I tried once already, to get up to Cache Creek with my Gold Bug Pro a little over a week ago and was lucky to get up CR 398 behind the Sage Outfitters (old Granite store) building in 4-wd thru the snow/ice and up on top by the Granite Cemetery. Ugh. That was a spooky drive, following in someone else's deep ruts, then melted, refrozen and then partly filled in with drifting snow....

Disappointed, there was WAY too much snow and still impossible to run around a little, detect, play with my Gold Bug Pro detector. So, I poked my way back down the road, went home all dejected... Embarassed

I have played with it a little here in my Man Cave, and it seems to easily signal very tiny gold, but that's gold on top of my carpet in a tiny Ziplock baggie without any mineralized overburden...

So, sorry...........can't give anyone any real feedback yet.... Come on Spring!

P.S. I don't have a Gold Bug II, or ever ran one, so I can't make a comparison. However, I have several White's MXTs I have run in the "prospecting" mode and a Garrett's Infinium LS. I can compare to them. Someday...

Weary1, Russ, et al.,

Well, check out the Trip Report I just posted under "Metal Detecting" and "Western Gold States" on my very first use of my new Gold Bug Pro detector...

I left the manual in the Jeep, so had to play with it from memory. Seems to have got it ground balanced and running O.K.

I found some junk, but no nuggets in my short time playing with it. Was VERY happy how light weight it is and the display/read out.

Can't wait to go again, soon...........maybe find me a nugget for once!
