If you have a stack of old prospecting / mining magazines and want to get rid of them , just offer / donate them to your public library! I have been takeing mine to our clubs meetings and outtings for members for free!

Russ,

Right you are! Wink

I have been taking both my ICMJ and GPAA Prospectors magazines every month or so to my local BV Library for the last 4 years I have lived here full-time...

I've seen them on the magazine rack before, so I know the ladies actually put them out for interested folks to see/read/learn..........and just MAYBE............get interested in gold prospecting from...

randy have you given any thought to asking to set up a gold /equipment display and or giving a class on mining / prospecting? You are in a great location to do so!

Russ,

ha. Well...........sort of...

I have been invited twice to display my equipment and speak at the Salida, CO, Columbine Gem & Mineral Club. First I did a big show of my equipment, tools and gold. Second I did mostly a Q & A follow up on my long fight with BLM to try to keep Cache Creek open to prospecting.

Then, last June I took about 17 or 19 members out....I forget the exact number....gold prospecting.

Sadly, 4 years back after I retired and I moved to BV full-time, I spoke to the BV Chamber of Commerce about getting a booth, setting up a gold panning area, sell my Colorado cons and promote gold prospecting at McPhelemy Park in town during their annual August BV Gold Rush Days event...

Guess what? The friggin' town chamber turned me down. They said they already had one gold prospecting table/group and that was the Gold Prospectors of Colorado club table. I said, "isn't this Gold Rush Days?" I mean really....how can only ONE gold table/space be allocated to actual gold, to "Gold Rush Days" when we have like 30 for food, 25 for paintings & art, like 5 for kids jumping castles.........on and on......and you think that only ONE table/booth specifically for gold/prospecting/mining is enough??? Embarassed

REALLY turned me off... I don't know. MAYBE this year I'll go talk to the BV Chamber of Commerce, see IF they have any new "leadership" there, or maybe a change of mind...

Here in Arizona the club I belong to runs the only mining booth in the Wickenberg gold rush days .We have panning booths set up .The chamber provides the gold we supply the people to run it .All profits all go to the chamber .We always tripple the money they spend on the gold.

Jloyd,

Thanks for the info...

Good to hear you all have a nice relationship, setup....  Wink

I'll try again with my local BV Chamber of Commerce this year...  See if I can get a booth, setup a prospecting display......panning troughs, etc.
